YMCA Aquasafe

The YMCA Aquasafe Program provides participants with the opportunity to learn essential swimming and water safety skills through a progressive aquatic education program catering for all ages and abilities. Classes are conducted in a relaxed but stimulating environment. They are designed to provide a solid foundation for a lifelong enjoyment of the water.

YMCA Aquasafe Program

Seven levels are included in the progressive YMCA Aquasafe Program that includes the following elements:

  • Personal Development
  • Water Safety
  • Stroke Development
  • Open Water Skills
  • Fun and Fitness

Infant Program

  • Periwinkle (12 - 24 months) (Parental participation required)
  • Minnow (2 - 3.5 years) (Parental participation required)
  • Class size: 6 parents and children

Class Duration: 27 minutes.
Participation of a parent/responsible person over the age of 16 is an essential element of these age based water familiarization classes. Infants and their parents are encouraged to experience and explore the aquatic environment. These classes also provide valuable water safety education for parents.

Preschool Program

3.5 years to school attendance

  • Tadpole (Parental participation required)
  • Goldfish
  • Sardine

Class size: Tadpole, 6 parents/guardians and 6 students, Goldfish & Sardine, 6 students. 

Class Duration: 27 minutes.

Tadpole is the beginner level for preschool aged children, and requires the participation of a parent/responsible person over the age of 16. Children are placed into Goldfish and Sardine classes according to their skills. These classes begin the transition from water familiarization to more traditional swimming and water safety skills. 

How to Enroll

Bookings may be made in person at reception or by telephone (9848 0000). Payment of the first month’s fees are required when booking. If you are making a telephone booking, initial payment will be required by with either Visa or Mastercard.

1- 3 ½ yrs old       Age based. No assessment required. 

3 ½ - School         No assessment required unless the participant is moving independently through the water.

Term assessment times:     Monday - Friday 4.00pm-6.00pm Saturday 9.00am - 12.00pm

Holiday assessment times:  Monday – Friday 9.00am – 10.00am
